NATIONAL PUBLIC HOLIDAYS – 2009

We have received official communication from the DIRECTOR OF INFORMATION SERVICES, confirming the list of OFFICIAL PUBLIC HOLIDAYS for 2009 as indicated below:

January – 1 New Year Day
January – 12 Zanzibar Revolution Day
March – 21* or 22* Maulid Day
April – 7 Karume Day
April – 10 Good Friday
April – 13 Easter Monday
April – 26 Union Day
May – 1 Workers’ Day
July – 7 SabaSaba Day
August – 8 Peasants Day
September – 21* & 22* Idd-El-Fitri
October – 14 The Mwalimu Nyerere Day and Climax of the Uhuru Torch Race

November – 28 * or 29* Idd-El-Hadj
December – 9 Republic Day
December – 25 Christmas Day
December – 26 Boxing Day
NB:
1) *These Holidays will depend upon the appearance of the new moon.
2) Please note that Holidays falling on Saturday or Sunday will be kept on those days. Act No.10 of 1994 has been repealed and holidays falling on Saturday or Sunday shall no longer be compensated.
